Athletes in Action has announced Redskins linebacker London Fletcher as one of the three finalists for the 2012 Bart Starr Award, which recognizes one NFL player for outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community.
The winner will be honored during the 25th Annual NFL-Sanctioned Super Bowl Breakfast, presented by Bob and Kathy Andersen and Companies with a Mission, on Saturday February 4, 2012, at 8:00 a.m. EST at the Exposition Hall of the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis (1202 East 38th Street).
The Bart Starr Award, given away at the Super Bowl Breakfast, honors Starr’s lifelong commitment to serving as a positive role model to his family, teammates and community. The winner of the Bart Starr Award is determined by NFL player balloting at the end of the regular season, making the award one of only two individual honors selected by the players themselves.

A Look At The 2012 Redskins Opponents

The 2012 NFL schedule is still months away, but with this week’s release of the 2012 opponents, it’s time for a premature analysis of the field.
The 5-11 record won’t suggest it, but the NFC East opponents were supposed to have it easy this year, matching up against the NFC West and the AFC East. As a reminder, no team had a winning record in the NFC West in 2010, as the division-winning Seahawks went 7-9. The AFC East–while having both the Patriots and Jets–also had the Dolphins and Bills.
What could be easier?
As it turned out, the Redskins caught each team in the AFC East during the period of each team’s greatest strength, but performed well against the NFC West. Overall, the Redskins had a (.300) winning percentage in inter-conference play, with all three wins coming against the NFC West.
But enough about this year; this is what the Redskins have to look forward to in 2012: Read more »

‘Helu’s Hurdle’ ESPN’s No. 4 Top NFL Play
Posted by on January 6, 2012 – 12:37 pmRedskins running back Roy Helu knows that he’s in the business of taking big hits from defensive players. He knows that sometimes his blocks will be there for a big play, and sometimes they won’t.
But just because a defender is in the perfect position to make a play doesn’t mean that Helu will allow him to do that. He proved that in Week 12 against the Seahawks, on a chilly, rainy afternoon in Seattle, when he turned a 2-yard carry into a 30-yard rumble for a touchdown.
Sitting in the press box that afternoon, I remember focusing on the field before the third-down play. Prior to Week 12, the Redskins coaching staff had only started to explore the pitch option in the running gain. This was a standard stretch play, and the blocks seemed to be developing according to how they were drawn up.
The only problem was that Seahawks safety Roy Lewis had the angle to stop the play for minimal gain.
This was the view from the stands that day, of the ensuing Roy-on-Roy crime:
