The Very Last Practice Of The 2011 Season

Posted by Brian Tinsman on December 30, 2011 – 11:35 am

The final day of Redskins practice has arrived for the 2011 season.  It’s a routine that began in training camp at the end of July, and has lasted five months to the end of December.

There were days of 100-degree temperatures, and days when it was in the 30’s.  There were many days when it rained (sometimes creating lakefront property) and other days when onlookers got sunburn.  There were days when thousands of fans packed the sidelines, and many many more when they did not.

On this particular youth-infused team, there were opportunities (and potentially careers) that were launched on the back fields, both through injury and excellence.  All together, there were six players that rose from the practice squad to the active roster this season, meaning that six players proved their muster exclusively in practice.

Here are a few of the Redskins players’ thoughts on the last day of school:

Another losing season :-( Of course, disappointed, but at least we did find that we have a few gliimmers of hope in young players that are quickly growing into good football players. Maybe, Mike Shanahan will open his eyes and realize that he doesn’t have to keep Kyle as the OC just because he is his son. Maybe he will realize that most of the plays that were called on offense this year were NOT tailored the players on the field. Football is a team sport, and any team has a chance to win games if they are working together in the right way. Kyle seems to call mostly plays that are “forcing” the player to make harder plays than they have to. An Offensive Coordinator should understand the limits of his players abilities and call plays accordingly, that’s all I’m saying. Hopefully, we will beat the S#$% out of the Eagles Sunday and end the year with a little boost of confidence!

    Hail to the Redskins!

    4 – ERIC COOK

    and several questionable

    1 – ANTHONY ARMSTRONG

The offense also has some players who established themselves to varying degrees as keepers.

    1 – TIM HIGHTOWER
    2 – ROY HELU
    3 – EVEN ROYSTER
    4 – WIL MONTGOMERY
