At some point in everyone’s life, you end up living with roommates. And usually, it’s part of the unspoken roommates code to leave work at work.
However, that’s easier said than done when you’re a professional athlete, playing for your roommate’s favorite team.
For Redskins’ running back Evan Royster, that scenario has become a reality.
Royster, a Virginia born native, went to Westfield High School in Chantilly, Virginia. He was activated before last weekend’s game against the Seahawks, and Sunday saw the first regular season action of his career.
Being from the area, his activation to the 53-man roster created quite a buzz among family and friends.
“The guy I live with is a huge Redskins fan, and the moment I got activated he was calling me and asking me questions,” he said. ”Y’know, that’s just how it is when you play for the hometown team.”
Royster’s roommates are all Northern Virginia natives, and high school friends of his.
“They are all big Redskins fans and are all excited that I got brought up,” Royster said. “I went to high school with them, and actually won a state championship with two of them.”
Asked if they bother him for inside information about what’s going on at work, Royster said:
“All the time. One of them is a big John Beck fan and is always asking ‘When’s John Beck going to play, when’s he going to get his shot.’ I kinda just shake my head and turn around. I try not to answer too many questions.”
“I get sick talking about work when I’m at home,” he added, shaking his head.
If Royster wanted to leave his work at work, he could have chosen almost any other profession. But as long as he pounds the rock for his hometown team, he’s going to to hear it from his closest fans.
