Cofield: Good To Get A Win For The Fans

When the Redskins won on Sunday evening in Seattle, there was an uneasiness that followed the team buses back to the airport.  It took me a while to put my finger on it, but as I watched the very subdued celebration on the team plane, it occurred to me.

This team had forgotten how to relax after a win.

Following each of the six losses in a row, the team had becoming accustomed to facing a skeptical media and promising to do better.  After a hard-fought victory on Sunday, Redskins nose tackle Barry Cofield explained that it almost felt foreign.

“It was almost like a weird feeling, as sad as that is,” he said with a chuckle.  “It’s been so long, you just didn’t–you didn’t know how to react.”

But as losing can be to players, Cofield understands that the biggest burden is carried by their family members and the fans.

“It was great for your family and your friends, and the fans that really care about what’s going on,” he said.  “Obviously, we’re so caught up in the moment that we’ve gotta come back to practice.  But those guys, they have to live with it all week.

“So it was good to get a win for them.”

Its about time a football player ‘gets it’. We as fans have a lot invested in a team. From jerseys, tickets, etc. thats a commitment. We may not be on the field playing, but WE have so much more passion for OUR team than many players have for their own team. Many of them forgot what its like to be a fan. For them its a job, but for a lot of us its a passion, an escape for 3-4 hours from our lives into something that we would love to do / be a part of. And when you work with Cowboys fans, these guys have to understand we now have to deal with these people for the rest of the season. Thank you Mr. Cofield for understanding that.
