Student Athletes Defy The Label Of ‘Zero’
Posted by on November 15, 2011 – 8:00 pmThe lump sum of wasted talent is zero. The lump sum of potential that’s never put to work, is zero.
It’s true in physics, and it’s true in sports. For every miraculous athletic performer, there’s the guy that never made it. And former Redskins tight end, didn’t want to see any of the latter at today’s “4th & Life” event at FedExField.
So rather than congratulate them for their tremendous ability, he reminded them that until they get paid for their skills, they were “zeroes.”
He later explained that he expected them to reject that label:

Doc Walker On 1981 Redskins’ 0-5 Start
Posted by on November 15, 2011 – 7:14 pmToday’s Coca Cola sponsored “4th & Life” football forum was a learning experience for everyone, myself included.
That’s what tends to happen when Redskins great Rick ‘Doc’ Walker takes the microphone in front of a group.
Among the many stories that he shared with the 500 coaches and student athletes in attendance, is of the 1981 Redskins season. That team–which Walker was a part of–started out the season 0-5, losing three games at home to the Cowboys, Giants and 49ers, and a pair on the road to the Cardinals and Eagles.
As Walker recalled, he was shell-shocked:

VOTE: Vicks Most Dedicated Redskins Fan
Posted by on November 15, 2011 – 4:57 pmIn early October, Vicks announced their Most Dedicated Fan contest, with the idea of finding the most dedicated fan in the NFL. Entrants were asked to submit a personalized rallying cry that shows why they are the Most Dedicated Fan.
Once the regular season comes to an end, the fan vote will be released and the most dedicated fan will be given a Super Bowl XLVI prize pack, including two tickets to Indianapolis.
This is–verbatim–the message from your Washington Redskins designee. She certainly brings the enthusiasm: Read more »

Redskins Bring Back Stallworth, Scott
Posted by on November 15, 2011 – 4:01 pmLast Tuesday, the Redskins cut receiver Donte Stallworth and defensive lineman Darrion Scott. On Sunday, the Redskins lost receiver Leonard Hankerson and defensive lineman Kedric Golston to season ending injuries.
This Tuesday, the Redskins have re-signed Stallworth and Scott, solidifying positions of need on the team.
And they also brought back two of the best-liked Redskins to a locker room that needs their positive motivation.
Even after being cut on the week of his birthday, Stallworth was a positive motivator to his former teammates, many of whom he had selflessly mentored since training camp:
Thanks everyone for the positive messages. LOTS of work left in these legs, I will be fine. Thanks to #Redskins org & fans for having me.—

Doc: Success = Opportunity + Hard Work
Posted by on November 15, 2011 – 3:54 pmFormer Redskins great and current sidelines reporter Rick ‘Doc’ Walker was paid to play football, but he was born for events like this afternoon’s Coca Cola sponsored “4th & Life” football forum.
Not only does he have a delivery style that’s impossible to ignore, but he had a message for students on and off the field: carpe diem.
Seize the day.
But you’ll have to take off your headphones and listen, in order to be able to do that, or you just won’t get it:

Kerrigan For Rookie Of Week
Posted by on November 15, 2011 – 10:34 amRemember Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, the man who said only yesterday that he doesn’t think he’s had a lot of individual success?
He’s now up for his third nomination for NFL Rookie of the Week (the fourth by a Redskins player), seeking his first win.
Kerrigan dominated on Sunday, finishing with five tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles. He leads the team with four forced fumbles, and is second in sacks to Brian Orakpo.
Here’s the field of competition, but the clear choice is obvious. VOTE as many time as you can before noon on Friday:
