Kerrigan: Not A Lot Of Individual Success

So far this season, Ryan Kerrigan has out-shined his own lofty draft slot, which was a mid-first-round pick.  He leads his first-round draft mates in tackles (45), is third in sacks (5), third in tackles for a loss (6), second in interceptions behind cornerback Patrick Peterson (1), second in passes defensed behind Peterson (4), first in forced fumbles (4), and first in defensive touchdowns (1).

On top of that, he’s sixth on the Redskins in tackles, first in tackles for a loss, second in sacks, first in quarterback hits, tied for second in interceptions, first in forced fumbles, and first in defensive touchdowns.  He’s been nominated for defensive rookie of the week twice already, and was named the September Defensive Rookie of the Month.

Unofficially, I would call that a lot of individual success.

He’s done everything that coaches have asked of him and he’s an all-around media darling.  But one thing he will not do is congratulate himself in the middle of a five-game losing streak.  He made it clear to the media today that none of the individual stats matter if the team isn’t winning.

“I wouldn’t say that I’ve had a lot of individual success,” he said today, combating the reporter’s assertion.  “I think I’ve done better lately, but I mean–like you said–it’s hard to look at your own numbers when you’re not winning.  Especially losing five in a row–it’s really been frustrating.  We’ve gotta just find a way to win this week.”

Kerrigan may be a one-man wrecking crew at times, but his record is 3-6, just like everyone else.

Ryan seems to combine a fiery enthusiasm for the game with a high desire to play hard and out perform his opponent. Good pick for sure. I hope he can hold on to the “fire of desire” like Fletcher has no matter what. I’d like to see him and ‘Rac put some sack’s on Rommo this weekend. I’ll remain optimistic with nothing to loose at this point and say it’ll be a good game. Hang in there!!!!!

Kerrigan——- one of the great, bright lights skins along with Arakpo & a couple others on D. need about 15 more with the ability & WILL TO WIN attitude like these guys.
