The Washington Redskins, GlaxoSmithKline and other Redskins’ health and wellness partner organizations will host the fourth annual Timeout for Veterans’ and Military Health which offers free health screenings to veterans and military members on Saturday, Oct. 29 at FedExField.
Military members, veterans and their families will have the opportunity to participate in free cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, and lung-function screenings at this exclusive military event. Health educators will also be available to discuss screening results one-on-one with patients.
Former Redskins’ players Ken Harvey, Ron Saul and Ricky Ervins, as well as Redskins Cheerleaders and the Hogettes will be on site honoring veterans and supporting them in taking steps to better protect themselves and their families from chronic diseases. Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the Redskins locker room and get a player’s perspective of FedExField while learning how to be proactive about their health.
For one Redskins Cheerleader in particular, this event is very near and dear to her heart. Adriana, a Cheerleader Rookie this year, serves in the United States Air Force as an Active Duty Manpower Analyst.
“When the Redskins honor our military veterans and active service members, it makes me very proud to be serving my country,” Adriana said. “When fans hear that I am in the military they always give me their thanks and appreciation for what I do. It really gives me a sense of accomplishment and makes me further realize what a great decision I made to enlist.”
Juggling two high-stress jobs is something that Adriana embraces, and she loves her service to the military as much as her time with the Redskins.
“My determination and drive keeps me going,” she explained. “Being a Redskins Cheerleader and serving in the military are two amazing opportunities. I have been able to maintain a balance in meeting my military obligations and my Redskins Cheerleader ones. Sometimes that means ‘working’ 18 hr days or getting four hours of sleep, but it is definitely worth it! I do whatever it takes to make it work.”
If you are part of the military, past or present, please come out to FedExField this Saturday for your free screening, and to meet Adriana and many other brave service men and women.
Lastly, on behalf of the Redskins, thank you for your service.
