Fantasy football alert: Santana Moss is playing the Cowboys. Go adjust your roster before reading the rest of the post.
In 12 career games against the Cowboys, Moss has caught 73 passes for 1,055 yards and six touchdowns. Clearly he knows how to get excited for this matchup.
“It’s a big game,” he said, stating the obvious. “We know what Dallas means to everybody else in the world, because it’s like, y’know, without that star, it’s almost like it ain’t football. I watched as a kid, and I’ve always been a fan of them. So when it’s time for you to get ready and get on that stage with them, there’s something a little more extra that comes out of you. You never know what it is, it just happens.”
And whatever it is, it works for Santana’s personal statistics. Obviously, his biggest performance against the Cowboys came in Dallas on national television in 2005, when Moss finished with five receptions for 159 yards and both touchdowns in a 14-13 thriller.
In 2011 though, what does any of that matter?
“I try to always look ahead and leave the past in the past,” he said. “It’s always brought up, so it’s hard to leave behind, but every year is a different year and you can’t really dwell on what happened in any other year. In the last, what? Five years since then? We haven’t had the best luck against them. But we always try to have a better outing against them, the next time we see them. It doesn’t feel like it’s been six years since then, but it has.”
Someday, Moss will be able to look back on that day in bask in the glow that every Redskins fan felt that day. But for now, it’s comforting that he’s focused exclusively on Monday Night.
