As linebacker Lorenzo Alexander noted via Twitter several days ago, he has played seven positions and significant weight in the last four years.
In order to be versatile in the NFL, athleticism is critical. Alexander revealed his secret during his sportsbuzz.com video chat today: pilates.
“I love pilates, that’s the best thing I do,” he told his fans. “I held out for a long time because I thought it was just for women, but Kedric [Golston] got me into it, and it’s the best cross-training out there. It’s all about core, which is everything. I’ve lost 40-50 pounds, and thanks to pilates I’m just as strong as ever.”
Apparently Alexander loved it so much that he and Golston (and their wives Manjanique and Christal) bought Castlerock Pilates in Ashburn, and turned it into “The Studio- Mind, Body, Soul.” During the offseason, the men train and help with the management of the business, but rely heavily on their wives during the season.
Part of the move to open a business was because of his UC Berkeley education and the confidence in Golston and their respective wives to run the business. The other part was an understanding that football isn’t forever.
“I understand that it’s gonna end here soon,” he said. “I’m 28 and I’ve already cracked the three and one-half year NFL average for a career. There is life after football.”
It’s good that the man who can do it all on the gridiron, has ready-made opportunities off of it as well.
