Rain Downpours On Monday’s Practice
Posted by on September 5, 2011 – 4:28 pmThe NFL regular season has officially begun, and the Redskins kicked it off with a late-afternoon practice today.
Perhaps more appropriately, they “splashed it off.”
Pretty much as soon as practice began, so did the rain, and it drove all spectating media back for cover. As the herd moved up towards the building, punter Sav Rocca held his hands in the air and asked where we were all going. Graham Gano ran by later and noted, “Beautiful day, huh?”
Before being chased away, there were a few observations to be made:
- A couple new faces and lots of new numbers on the field. Identities will be revealed when I get a closer look.
- Rocca and long snapper Nick Sundberg were “running routes” on the sidelines and making one-handed grabs. There were also a few behind-the-back throws and overhead snap passes. So far so good, but rapport between these two is critical. Route running is probably not.
- Receiver/returner Brandon Banks was bouncing around on the field. He did not appear to be bothered by his bothersome knee.
- Once the torrential downpours began, all of the receivers had trouble snagging passes in receiver drills. Go figure.
Just as I was in the process of assembling two of every animal, media availability ended and so did the rain.
That’s how it goes sometimes. Happy Labor Day everyone.

“new faces” … do tell. i’ve been scanning media reports to see if the Skins have traded a WR or picked up any offensive or defensive linemen off of waivers.
