‘NFL On FOX’ Gives Cleatus Robot A Makeover

Posted by Brian Tinsman on September 1, 2011 – 12:41 pm

Yesterday, “FOX Sports: NFL” released, via their Twitter handle (@NFLONFOX), that they are updating Cleatus Robot, the little mechanical-critter that runs around in the corner of your television screen during NFL games.

The Redskins are scheduled to play 13 of 16 games on FOX, so it’s worth a preview:

Now perhaps I’m just being sensitive, but are the colors of the opposing team, in fact, Burgundy and Gold?  I wonder how many teams in the NFC have those colors?

Oh wait.  One.

Something that started out as a graphic in the corner of the screen has certainly taken on a life of its own.  FOX has actually built its very own Twitter account (@CLEATUSonFOX) for the football machine.  This was a tweet from yesterday:

Not really sure how I feel about that.  What do you think?

I actually will watch the game on any other channel if possible, and with cable, it’s always possible, just to avoid having that weird thing on the screen. It’s annoying at best, and at it’s worst, in the way of my view…..why can’t you just show the damn football game???

I tend to agree. I don’t even really mind it down in the corner, but don’t make it into a part of the show. Tweets during halftime? It’s a made-up robot. Maybe we just don’t get it…

I love Cleatus. Instead of it being in the way, maybe they could have it fill the gap in Strahan’s teeth whenever he’s on the screen… And yea, I hope the colors are burgundy and gold HAIL SKINS!
