Cleansing Stephen Bowen Of The Cowboys Stain

In relatively old news, new defensive end Stephen Bowen was interviewed by CSN’s sideline reporter, Rick ‘Doc’ Walker during the first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Doc told viewers at home that he had exorcised the demon of Dallas out of Bowen, and that he had “cleansed him of that filth.”

Check it out below if you missed it:

Stephen took it all in stride, and knows which side of the rivalry he’s on now.

“Doc was just messing around with me, and just cracking jokes,” he said with a smile.  “It was a joke–I thought it was funny.”

This might qualify as one of those jokes that has a lot of truth to it.

“I wasn’t taking it seriously,” he continued.  “I’m here in Washington now. I’m excited for the season, and the things that we’re doing on defense, offense, and special teams, everything. I think that we’ve got a chance to go out there and surprise a lot of people.”

I figured I would give Bowen a chance to get settled in Washington before I asked him about his loathsome former team.  It turns out that he has a pretty good perspective on the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry.

“The fans, they take it serious on both ends,” he said.  But for players, I think players just think of it as a divisional game, and you have to get a win.  No team in the division is different from anyone else.”

Don’t expect Bowen to participate in the fans’ rivalry, but don’t expect this competitor to come up soft against his former team either.

“It’s not really that I go out there and hate those guys,” he said, “I’m trying to compete to dominate and win.”

That’ll be good enough for the Burgundy and Gold faithful.
