While the Redskins were very much focused on the upcoming 2011 season at today’s “Welcome Home Luncheon,” there was time to reflect on last season’s accomplishments.

Former Redskins great Gary Clark introduced last year’s offensive player of the year, wide receiver Santana Moss.  He said that his daughter describes Moss as “Sexy Cool,” and recalled that people had once compared Moss to him, “except better-looking and a step faster.”

Here was the Moss tribute video:

Defensive player of the year, Brian Orakpo, had the best ‘London-Fletcher-is-old’ joke of the day when he accepted his award, saying, “Where’s London at?  I’m sorry, man,” he said with a laugh.  “London has won the award for the last 20 years.  It’s about time to see a different face.”

Here is Orakpo’s tribute video:

Special teams player of the year, Lorenzo Alexander, got a huge roar from the crowd for his highlight shot on the Eagles returner last season.  He gave credit for his play up to God, saying that he came into the league as a 315-pound defensive tackle.  He’s now a 260-pound linebacker, and “you don’t do that without a little bit of divine intervention.”

Here is Alexander’s tribute video:

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder announced the introduction for the team’s community service award winner, linebacker London Fletcher.  It was followed by an extended standing ovation from the Burgundy and Gold faithful.  He started his acceptance speech by joking, “I was just telling Bruce [Allen], this is the first time I’ve ever gotten a standing ovation.”

Fletcher is truly an amazing example of an all around solid athlete who gives back to the community. For years, we’ve heard about how he’s been absolutely awesome on and off the field. I wish more football players had his attitude regarding the sport.

You can tell Fletcher is just extremely happy to be able to do something he truly loves, and to be in a position where he can help others.

Trent, I honestly believe that he is shaping Orakpo to be his successor as the Defensive Leader as well as Community Service Leader, I love the team our Skins are turning into.
