DMV Has An Earth-Shaking Moment [Updated]
Posted by on August 23, 2011 – 2:00 pmIn officially the strangest happening I’ve ever encountered at Redskins Park, there was an 5.9 magnitude earthquake at Redskins Park today.
The epicenter was said to be in Central Virginia between Richmond and Charlottesville, southwest of Washington D.C.
No one in the building can remember seismic activity of this magnitude in the area. No damage to the building, here’s hoping that everyone in Redskins Nation is okay.
Seismologist Lucy Jones just said on CNN that this is the biggest earthquake on the east coast “in decades.”
Anthony Armstrong wins the award for the first Redskins tweet:
Was that an earthquake?—

..did I just survive my first earthquake?—

Niles Paul with the obvious:

And I think Donte Stallworth had the best:

@John-
I’m originally from Seaford, Del., so I know your neck of the woods–glad everything is alright on the peninsula too. DMV is DC, MD, and VA (or department of motor vehicle). I’m quite familiar with Delmarva though

@blazinclipsy-
I haven’t heard anything to suggest that the earthquake won’t be a distance memory at game time. As far as I know, no worries!

As I’m sure most all of you have inferred/seen by now, there was very little in the way of damage and I haven’t heard of anyone sustaining injury from the earthquake yesterday.
Here in Richmond we’re only about 40 miles from the epicenter, and it wasn’t bad at all frankly. If you’d told me I would be experiencing a magnitude 5.8-6 earthquake that morning, I’d have expected it to be a whole lot worse than it was. Felt like an oversized train was passing right outside.
I for one enjoyed it! Likely a once-in-a-lifetime event, after all. Been in Virginia my whole life and never felt one before.
