Seven Points On The Morning Walk-Through

This morning sported the largest crowd so far at training camp, and there was a notable buzz in the air.  Even though fans were only watching a walk-through, there was excitement to see the offense in action and anticipation of the free agent additions this afternoon.

No cameras were allowed (as per usual) and players were not available to the media (highly unusual), but here’s what we found out:

1. Chris Cooley was wearing a polo underneath his practice jersey.  He was, by far, the most stylish player in practice, complete with his canary-yellow cleats.

2. Elvis was in the building.  A fan with impressive mutton chops and poofy black hair was on hand to watch the practice.  Think Elvis in his later years.

3. Head Coach Mike Shanahan took a long look at the defense.  The team was split into offensive and defensive units, and Shanahan spent a lot of time on the back field working with the defense today.

4. NFL officials were on-hand, presumably to talk with coaches and players about rule changes this year.  They were decked out in their full zebra-garb, which looked a wee bit out of place, given the informal nature of a walk-through.

5. Outside Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan was back out on the field, walking though special teams and defensive schemes with the team.  No news on if he’ll practice this afternoon, but it looked like he was moving around pain-free.

6. Running back Ryan Torain was relegated to the sidelines today after injuring his hand in practice yesterday.  Part of his quest in camp this year is to prove that he can stay healthy, so hopefully this is just precautionary.

7. Free agent safety Reed Doughty and free agent linebacker Rocky McIntosh were seen at practice today standing on the sidelines and signing autographs for fans.  Both are expected to be back with the team.

A funny note for the end of practice, is that when players were leaving the field, most had to get back inside for team meetings.  Fans were lined up, calling over their favorite players to sign autographs, and Oshiomogho Atogwe was a popular man.  Fans were encouraged to start chanting “OJ! OJ! OJ!” by new Redskins cornerback Josh Wilson.

Atogwe laughed and took it in stride, signing a few more autographs before he went back inside.

A lot of work to do Guys. I know you and all the Fans are ready for a fine Football season. I know that Coach Shanahan is got great stuff up his sleeve to take this fine team all the way to the “Big” game. Ryan Kerrigan is going to do great as a Linebacker and our man Chris Cooley is all my Wife Libby wants to see (I can’t figure out why)
We are with you all in spirit from the desert outside of Las Vegas.
    Regards to all,
    Bill and Libby Hoover

    Hey Bill and Libby-
Thanks for checking in, and it’s nice that we have fans out in Sin City. Are you going to make it to the Seahawks game to see them in person?

So I’m super bummed. I’ve been a fan since 93 (the year I was born) and have yet to see the skins greatness. I’ve been to one Redskins game in my life… last year, on monday night against the eagles… ya. I’ve been going to training camp the past 3 years, and will be there this year. But I have to leave for college in 2 weeks. In Spokane WA.!! What will I do! There is NO WAY I am watching them seahawks… oh well.

Go buy tickets to the Redskins-Seahawks game in November! Also, try to find a live stream of the games online if you don’t have access to DirecTV? Or, go buy a Slingbox and swipe your TV access from home. IMPROVISE, MAN!

I enjoy reading this blog but what happen to the photos. There used to be a lot more pics. I would like to have a visual of the fun and silly things that you write about…i.e. Chris Cooley wearing a polo in practice or the chubby older Elvis look alike. I’m stuck at the office and I need photos.

    Hey Dwight-

Only problem with photos right now is that they only allow for cameras to be used for 30 minutes of practice once a day. Nothing for walk-throughs, and only the most vanilla of stuff for the practices. So I couldn’t show you Cooley…I’ll get Chubby Elvis for you next time. I’ve solved half of my technology issues (flip cam works again), so there should be more video today. I’ll make it as graphic-y as possible for you though, stay tuned!!
