Redskins Debut Free Agents At Practice

Posted by Brian Tinsman on July 30, 2011 – 2:19 pm

Even though they were only dressed in sweats and couldn’t participate in any team activities, the Redskins free agent signees were a big hit with the fans today.

The Redskins released the names of all official signings so far, as follows:

Stephen Bowen, DL
Santana Moss, WR
Chris Chester, OL
Kellen Clemens, QB
Barry Cofield, DL
Donte Stallworth, WR
Josh Wilson, CB

Stallworth and Moss were seen chatting on the sidelines during practice:

On the back field, the defense was shadowed by defensive linemen Cofield and Bowen.  Fun fact about these two, they are both six-year veterans, both nearly the same height (6-4 and 6-5, respectively), same age (27), and the exact same listed weight (306 pounds).

Yesterday, head coach Mike Shanahan described the pair as great natural leaders and–not surprisingly–very similar players.

“I said if we could get them, I think we could really help our football team,” he said.  “You get two guys who are 27 years old, two guys who are natural leaders, and that is how you build your football team. You build it up front on the offensive and defensive lines. We have a couple of guys that I believe are future team captains and can lead.”

Check out the video of the two learning their playbooks at practice today, below:

I like the Cofield and Bowen signings. They aren’t flashy players but they are solid. They’ll fit the positions well.

I cant wait to see dirty 30 put eli on his back week 1. I would say Orakpwnd, but you know he is going to be held for 60 minutes. I think the giants even hired a guy to hold him while he sits on the bench while the Offense is on the field.

We’ve signed a lot of solid players…not the Marvcus Pattons or Stanley Richards or Sean Gilbert wanna be’s who came for a paycheck. Solid trades for Tim Hightower and dumping waste were crucial. Let’s just play tomorrow! Forget camp! I wanna see football!
