The overwhelming sentiment in the halls of Redskins Park today, was relief to be back.  There were smiles, hugs, and handshakes all around as players settled in and get acclimated to being back.

After the longest lockout in NFL history, players and fans alike can experience a decade of labor peace, the longest such agreement ever designed.  Most players currently in the league will never experience another labor negotiation, and that’s just fine by them.

Center Casey Rabach was looking forward to an agreement in order to get back to work with his teammates. Read more »

No Two-A-Days? No Sweat

Posted by Brian Tinsman on July 26, 2011 – 3:13 pm

Yes, it’s 93 degrees outside today, so insert your own sweat joke here.

Earlier today, I bemoaned the fact that teams will no longer be allowed to run two-a-days during training camp under the new CBA.  It turns out that I  might be the only one who noticed. Read more »

John Beck Unplugged

Mark your calendars ladies and gentlemen, as we are quickly approaching the 1-year anniversary of John Beck joining the team.

On August 2nd of last year, a minor transaction between the Ravens and Redskins sent cornerback Doug Dutch to Baltimore and sent Beck 40 miles down I-95.  One year later, Beck has a decent chance of starting the season at the top of the quarterback depth chart.

In an offseason marked by enthusiastic interviews, Beck has embraced the open competition, and together with Rex Grossman, helped to organize the offense in the offseason workouts.  Yesterday, shortly after the NFL and NFLPA’s joint press conference, Beck was officially the first Redskins player to show up to work.

Of course the details of the agreement had not been released yet, and as it turned out, players weren’t able to come in until this morning.  Beck would probably have known that, if he had cable TV. Read more »

Veterans Start Rolling In

Posted by Brian Tinsman on July 26, 2011 – 10:43 am

After a mostly younger crowd showed up before 10 a.m., the veterans have started coming in now to meet with coaches and catch up with teammates.  No organized activities today, but some players are meeting coaches for the first times while others are working out.  There are lots of new faces, but a few are familiar.

First center Casey Rabach came in: Read more »

First Redskins Player Through The Door Is…

Rookie free safety DeJon Gomes.  The former Nebraska Husker walked into team facilities for the first time on Tuesday morning at 9:30.  He was joined shortly thereafter by teammates Logan Paulsen and cornerback Kevin Barnes.

Barnes, by the way, looks to be in great shape and went right in to greet the coaching staff and other players.

“DJ was in the door first,” Barnes said of Gomes.  “He’s off getting his first playbook.”

For Barnes, it’s good to be back in the building.  The offseason work was good, but he’s ready to have practice with coaches again.

“London had some stuff to run,” he said about the player organized workouts.  ” I don’t know where he got it from, but he had it.  When we had the practices and everything, he came out and we ran plays, and y’know, learning sessions.  We went from there.  “

There was never any question about who was in charge at those practices and the team get some good work in as a result.

“We pretty much just did what [Fletcher] told us to do.  It wasn’t too bad. I mean we didn’t really miss that much.”

Posted by Brian Tinsman on July 26, 2011 – 9:39 am

With the signing of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, gone are the days of hard-hitting practices in the morning and afternoons of training camp.  Instead, teams will now be restricted to one practice per day in pads and allowed an additional practice without. Read more »
