Tents At Redskins Park

It’s been an offseason of construction photos: we’ve had cranes and drills and monuments and solar panels in all combinations and permutations, and by those standards these are relatively low-tech. A few guys, a lifter, some tents. Still: they’re pretty exciting to see.

Obviously, the labor talks are still ongoing and any outcome is still possible, but here’s photographic proof that folks here at Redskins Park are setting up the tents that accompany training camp. Media tents, fan experience tents, the welcome banner … they’re all going up as I type this.

Again, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything. There are no dates and no details to share. But at least there are tents. It’s a start.

The Redskins-Harry Potter Connection

Brian Tinsman takes a look at a Redskins/pop-culture connection that I have to admit I hadn’t even considered.

In other geek news, the final installment of the Harry Potter movie franchise was released last Thursday, and celebrated the highest grossing weekend in cinematic history ($168.5 million). What’s even more amazing is how Harry Potter has never really been tied to the Washington Redskins–until now.

Here is a point-by-point argument for how Harry Potter pertains to the Redskins:

Harry Potter goes to Hogwarts:

The school of witchcraft and wizardry in the story is called Hogwarts. The model offensive line in the NFL was the Redskins Hogs. Hogwarts is seen as a place of sanctuary and success, much like the quarterback’s pocket when the Hogs were lined up protecting him.

Gryffindor’s colors are Burgundy and Gold:

For you muggles out there, Harry Potter, and practically every likable character in the Harry Potter series, belongs to the house of Gryffindor at Hogwarts. This house teaches the value of courage, bravery, loyalty, nerve and chivalry–all values that you want in a football player.

Brandon Banks, Fashion Model

It was beginning to seem like we had gone too long between Redskins players doing amateur fashion modeling for charity — I mean, the Ryan Kerrigan modeling stories were from more than TWO MONTHS AGO.

Brandon Banks to the rescue again. Banks was a model at celebrity designer Kenneth “KAS” Flanagan’s House Of KAS Anniversary Show at National Harbor this past weekend, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.

I still know very little about fashion, but Banks appears to be modelling an updated version of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s famous “Terminator” line of clothing, and I wholeheartedly approve of that.
