By now you’ve probably seen the reports: the Redskins are partnering with NRG Energy to bring renewable energy to FedExField, specifically in the form of 8,000 solar panels covering 850 parking spaces. The panels will provide enough energy to provide a portion of the stadium’s electricity on gamedays, and all of it’s non-gameday needs. This, frankly, is awesome.
If you’ve seen the reports, you’ve likely also seen the artist’s rendering of the solar panels, which is also awesome, especially since it’s just six people in silvery jumpsuits away from being the cover to a circa-1958 science fiction paperback.
Here, though, is the thematic continuation of our “pictures of cranes” series: pictures of drilling things (and more cranes) erecting the solar panels in the Platinum A1 parking lot of FedExField. As always, click the photos to enlarge; they make much more sense when they’re bigger.
