Intern Ryan gets his introduction to the internet meme known as planking, via Redskins fifth-round draft choice Niles Paul.
After Niles Paul tweeted and then retweeted some pictures of himself (and possibly some others) “planking” last night, I figured it was pretty hilarious and ought to be shown to the rest of Redskins Nation who may not have a Twitter account or don’t follow Paul in the Twitter World.
For those who don’t know what planking is … well, neither did I when I first stumbled upon these pictures. Below, various professional athletes offer some background information on the internet phenomenon, and here’s some deeper background in a story from the BBC.
I’m not a professional “planker” and don’t have the ability to just the quality of an established plank position, but here are two photos of Paul planking, via Dominique Lashun’s twitter feed. So check out the following photos and enjoy the extreme plankage going on.
People are planking on top of cars, basketball hoops, countertops and chairs, and Paul even retweeted a picture of someone underneath water. I’m no rocket scientist, but this is definitely getting out of control.
But some feel there’s no reason to stop with just one person. Go gather the whole neighborhood for a planking party! (via a retweet by Redskins defensive lineman Darrion Scott)
And by the way, I wasn’t the only one confused with the whole idea of planking. As I was writing this blog, I noticed several other athletes, including some Redskins, getting themselves involved in the world of planking on Twitter.
Here’s NBA player and DC native Kevin Durant:
And Anthony Armstrong:
And finally here’s Scott tried helping him out:
