New Party Decks Coming To FedExField

Posted by Matt Terl on June 6, 2011 – 6:10 pm

There’s been a lot of speculation about the construction in the upper decks of the end zones at FedExField. In tonight’s Redskins Nightly News, Larry Michael talks about what’s happening there.

Here’s the transcription, for those of you who don’t feel like watching an entire minute of video:

Word out of Redskins Park: there’s been a lot of speculation over the last couple of weeks, if people have been to the stadium, what is happening in the end zones on the upper level to the seats at FedExField.Well, now come to find out cement slabs are being removed and party decks are being installed. Now this construction will take place over the next few months; not ready for this season, ready for the 2012 season. More, in an official statement from the Redskins, is forthcoming.

Much as we saw last year — how the fans really enjoyed those party decks above the huge 100-foot HD video boards, the same theory taking place in the upper level in the end zones. It’ll change the look of the stadium; the fans can have standing room seats there. And again, formal announcement coming soon from the Redskins, on that — and MORE improvements to the stadium.

I’ll have more on this as that formal announcement approaches. Read more »

Chris Cooley's Schoolboy Picture Explained

Posted by Ryan Gracia on June 6, 2011 – 2:31 pm

Even though Brian Tinsman’s epic Cooley transcription has wrapped up, Redskins.com Interns Write About Chris Cooley Week has this one last post remaining. I should probably clarify that this wasn’t a deliberately chosen content theme. Basically, the interns are writing about things that are out there on the internet, and Cooley has done some major — and entertaining — press lately. Here, Ryan Gracia takes a look at ESPN The Video explaining ESPN The Backstory of Cooley’s ESPN The Magazine when-they-were-kids photoshoot.

In most issues, ESPN The Magazine makes NFL players look the way they appear on the football field: aggressive, angry, and, at times, violent (at least as violent as a QB can get).

ESPN took a different route in a recent photo shoot with Redskins TE Chris Cooley, taking a trip down memory lane and trying to get Cooley to look as “adorable” as he did in a picture from his first day of kindergarten. Read more »

Chris Cooley Has An Awesome House

Posted by Brian Tinsman on June 6, 2011 – 12:44 pm

Intern Brian Tinsman’s relentless transcribing of Chris Cooley’s appearance on the Rich Eisen podcast finally comes to an end. Personally, I’m impressed with his stick-to-it-iveness.

I haven’t been to Chris Cooley‘s house, but if it’s anything like he describes then it sounds like quite the place to hang your hat. In his all-encompassing interview with the NFL Network’s Rich Eisen on his NFL.com podcast, Cooley discusses some of the fun features of his humble abode. Read more »

Chris Cooley Assesses the Team

Posted by Brian Tinsman on June 6, 2011 – 9:06 am

On Friday, intern Brian Tinsman turned in a couple of posts from his transcript of Chris Cooley’s epic podcast with Rich Eisen. First there was the Intricate Prank Phone Call post, then the Wrestling Fred Davis post. (Over at Hogs Haven, they kicked in the Donovan McNabb Analysis, for good measure.) You may have thought that was all Tinsman could squeeze from one podcast, but you would be very wrong. Here’s some more.

As a veteran on a team that is getting younger, Chris Cooley has taken on a leadership role not only on the field, but also in the locker room. He also happens to be very outspoken and honest in his assessments of the team direction.

Cooley recently sat for a candid interview with NFL Network host Rich Eisen on his NFL.com podcast, which I might’ve mentioned once or twice. And among the other things Cooley talked about, he discussed the direction of the Redskins going into 2011:

I like the guys that we have. I think when you’re a new coach, you can’t just start with someone else’s players, and you can’t just go out and get whoever you want. It’s a tough league to acquire the guys you want. You have the guys that kind of understand our program, and Mike [Shanahan]’s pretty honest with the guys. Pretty honest with our team, in saying ‘If you don’t buy in, I don’t give a damn–you won’t be a part of this team.’ And I think we made a big step forward with getting guys that will buy into what he wants to do.
