This doesn’t really warrant its own post; in a perfect world, this would just have been the art that illustrated my interview with Mark Rypien about his daughter Angela’s new gig in the Lingerie Football League. But this isn’t a perfect world, as we all learn again and again in life, and this image wasn’t added to to the Robert Delfin Photography Facebook page until yesterday.
This image is largely devoid of context — just the younger Rypien, left, and her Super Bowl MVP dad, right, tossing the ball around. Mark Rypien even mentioned that he had helped teach Angela some QB basics — including the drop, as we’re seeing here — and joked that his daughter “has better guns than I do, and probably throws a better ball than I do right now.” So it’s not like this is the first time this has happened.
In my head, though, it’s the last scene in Field Of Dreams, with the portentous, hopeful music playing in the background as years of unresolved issues are solved through the simple having of a catch. I’ve embedded the song in question below if you want to listen to it while you look at the picture; it adds a whole bunch of completely unearned drama to the experience.
