A Redskins House, Redskins Tooth, And Other Things You Can Vote For

Posted by Matt Terl on May 31, 2011 – 2:55 pm

The Redskins Fan Draft Photo Contest — last seen on this blog as an excuse to post pictures of pets in Redskins gear — has entered the public voting stage. Twenty finalists have been selected, and now you all can go vote for your favorites. And boy, is there some remarkably fanatical stuff for you to choose from.

Like this submission from Rosey King, an entire house painted in Redskins colors:

Or those old friends of this blog, via Tim Thompson, Uncle Skins and Bet-skins Ross:

Or the Knestricks, a couple who incorporated Redskins attire into their wedding:

Or, perhaps most unsually, this Redskins permanent dental crown:

Ryan Kerrigan Brings the Heat

Posted by Brian Tinsman on May 31, 2011 – 11:28 am

Redskins.com intern Brian Tinsman gives us an update on Redskins first-round draft pick linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.

Ryan Kerrigan’s mastery on the football field is well-documented. His time as a high school basketball player has already been covered, as have his superior swimming abilities. But wait, there’s more!

While most of the country was celebrating our nation’s armed forces with family time and backyard cookouts, Kerrigan was moonlighting as a baseball player.

Well, sort of.

Kerrigan did the honors of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the minor league baseball game between the Indianapolis Indians and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

The Indians, the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, were Kerrigan’s hometown team growing up. The home stadium, Victory Field, is considered one of the finest minor league baseball facilities in the country.

Kerrigan first invited everyone out to the game, via twitter (@RyanKerrigan):

Now I’ve been watching baseball for a long time, and I have no idea what “hot stinky cheddar” is. Curiosity caused me to look it up, and unsurprisingly, no one had ever used that hash-tag before. But apparently it’s a good thing, because more than 8,000 fans showed up.

Kerrigan then walked us through the warming up process: Read more »

Mark Rypien And Angela Rypien Have A Catch

Posted by Matt Terl on May 31, 2011 – 9:33 am

This doesn’t really warrant its own post; in a perfect world, this would just have been the art that illustrated my interview with Mark Rypien about his daughter Angela’s new gig in the Lingerie Football League. But this isn’t a perfect world, as we all learn again and again in life, and this image wasn’t added to to the Robert Delfin Photography Facebook page until yesterday.

This image is largely devoid of context — just the younger Rypien, left, and her Super Bowl MVP dad, right, tossing the ball around. Mark Rypien even mentioned that he had helped teach Angela some QB basics — including the drop, as we’re seeing here — and joked that his daughter “has better guns than I do, and probably throws a better ball than I do right now.” So it’s not like this is the first time this has happened.

In my head, though, it’s the last scene in Field Of Dreams, with the portentous, hopeful music playing in the background as years of unresolved issues are solved through the simple having of a catch. I’ve embedded the song in question below if you want to listen to it while you look at the picture; it adds a whole bunch of completely unearned drama to the experience.
