Redskins Rookie Cheerleaders At The Calendar Shoot

Posted by Matt Terl on May 25, 2011 – 4:52 pm

Jordan Beane, Official Blog Cheerleader Calendar Shoot Correspondent, didn’t have time to add a lot of tedious “words” to today’s update. Beane claims that he’s “busy” with “work things”; I suspect that he’s playing beach volleyball and drinking elaborate frozen things. But he was kind enough to send back pictures of a few of the rookie cheerleaders from their photoshoots, which is correspondent-y enough for me. You can click any of the photos for a larger version.

More pictures after the jump.

Sean McVay On Tight Ends And Pottery

Posted by Ross Leonhart on May 25, 2011 – 11:48 am

Redskins tight ends coach Sean McVay is entering his first full season with the Redskins after taking over the job on an interim basis at the end of last year. He talked to Amanda Mitchell of the Redskins Broadcast Network about the team’s tight end situation, compliments from Chris Cooley, and … um … pottery. Redskins.com intern Ross Leonhart has the report for those of you who don’t enjoy watching video.

Tight ends coach Sean McVay knows that he’s coaching an enviable assortment of players.

“I really feel good about the group that we have,” McVay tells Amanda Mitchell, in an interview aired on Redskins Nation. “One of the things that’s unique about the tight end position is you ask the guys to block and pass protect like an offensive lineman, but then you also expect them to run routes like a wide receiver and I think Chris (Cooley) is one of those guys that can really do all those things, and Fred (Davis) and Logan (Paulsen) also. So it’s a neat group.”

Last season, the Redskins tight end corps had 100 catches for 1,175 yards and seven touchdowns.

Various Reports From Players-Only Practice

Posted by Matt Terl on May 25, 2011 – 10:54 am

Around forty Redskins players met at an area field for a players-only practice yesterday. Here’s a few of the more interesting things to emerge from that session.

• A chance to hear from some rookies, via NBCWashington’s Capital Games blog:

Miami Writer Provides Rumor Round-Up

Posted by Matt Terl on May 25, 2011 – 10:12 am

There’s a nice, smart post over on Homer McFanboy today: Brian Murphy realized that South Florida Sun-Sentinel Dolphins beat guy Omar Kelly has ties to quarterback John Beck and rookie wide receiver Leonard Hankerson, and was also among the first to float the Vince-Young-to-Washington rumors. So Murphy got in touch with Kelly and got his up-close take on all three stories (although he’s split the Hankerson stuff off for a separate item tomorrow). The whole post is worth reading, but here are two quick highlights.

On Beck’s Miami days:

“I think in time – and he’s now had that time – he might be a decent quarterback,” Kelly said of Beck. “The issues that he struggled with when he was with the Dolphins were partly caused by the changing of the regime. They wanted him to play right away and wouldn’t let him grow at a respectable pace.”

On launching the Vince Young to D.C. rumor:

“I honestly don’t pay much attention,” Kelly said. “When you hear stuff like that, you sort of say ‘That’s interesting’ and you pass it along. Of course, it set Washington on fire. Vince Young in a west-coast offense could work. From what I understand though, the real teams that are interested will step forward once he’s released and once Tennessee isn’t trying to get draft picks for him.”

Ryan O'Halloran And Larry Michael On Yesterday's Workouts

Posted by Matt Terl on May 25, 2011 – 9:30 am

Ryan O’Halloran of CSNWashington dropped by the Redskins Nation TV studio yesterday to give Larry Michael an analysis on the first day of players-only workouts. My primary takeaway from the clip: Mike Sellers has not slacked on the weight room work during his time away from the facility. He looks enormous.
