Hail! Flashback: 1966

Posted by Matt Terl on April 1, 2011 – 8:58 am

Charley Taylor was a very good running back. He was drafted as a running back. He won the NFC Rookie Of The Year Award as a running back. He went to the Pro Bowl two straight years as a running back. And then, halfway through his third year in the league, he became a split end — and turned out to be a Hall of Famer and one of the all-time greats at the position.

Most people attribute that switch to head coach Otto Graham, but writer/artist Ben Ceccarelli — as usual — has some different ideas. And in this week’s Hail! Flashback comic strip, Ceccarelli takes us back to the week that switch was made to see what he believes was actually going on. So set your time-travelling phone booths for 1966, and click this first panel or the Read More link to see the rest of the strip.
