When Liz Taylor Got Joe Gibbs Angry About A Coin Flip

Actress Liz Taylor passed away today at the age of 79. This may not seem to be a story with a lot of Redskins connections, but NFL PR guy Greg Aiello tweeted about one: in September of 1989, Taylor was a guest of then-new Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones at Cowboys Stadium when the Cowboys. And the Redskins were the visiting team.

Taylor was in town, according to contemporary news accounts, as part of a promotional tour for her perfume Passion, and she was expected to flip the coin before the game. As Aiello tells it, referee Pat Haggerty said, “Captains from Dallas, meet captains from Washinton. Captains from Washington, meet Liz Taylor and Jerry Jones.”
