More On Maryland Running Back Da'Rel Scott

Posted by Matt Terl on March 18, 2011 – 2:30 pm

Jordan Beane was the Redskins Blog’s NFL Combine correspondent. The Combine was where head coach Mike Shanahan first directly alluded to Clinton Portis’s likely departure — a departure which has since become reality, emphasizing the possible need for a new running back in D.C. Da’Rel Scott is a running back from the nearby University of Maryland, who put up the fastest RB time at the Combine. Given all of that, you might’ve thought that an interview with Scott would be something that Beane would’ve at least mentioned if not posted about.

You — and I — would’ve been fundamentally wrong. After Wednesday’s Maryland Pro Day — at which Scott was one of the stars — Beane mentioned that he had a Scott piece lying around and asked if I wanted it. Since it appears below, you can guess how I answered.

The day before he was set to begin his drill work at the Combine, Maryland running back Da’rel Scott laid out his goals.

“Just test well, because I’ve been testing pretty well where I train at so I just got to be consistent,” Scott said. “Just stay consistent, bench good, run the forty good and do all the other tests.”

Scott then went ahead and ran the forty in 4.34 seconds, faster than any other offensive player at the Combine. I’d say that’s testing pretty well. Read more »

Donovan McNabb: Basketball Analyst, And Other Links

Posted by Matt Terl on March 18, 2011 – 10:34 am

As previously mentioned, quarterback Donovan McNabb made his debut as a basketball analyst on Comcast SportsNet yesterday, and acquitted himself pretty well at the basketball part of things.

He also fielded a ton of Redskins questions, where by “fielded” I mean “gave polite non-answers to.” Thankfully, Dan Steinberg of the DC Sports Bog has already done the thankless work of transcribing those answers. Here’s one example:

“Only thing I can do at this particular point is just continue to stay focused on what my goal is, and my goal is to help a team win a Super Bowl. I said that was gonna work on my craft and continue to go back to the fundamentals of trying to be a better quarterback, and that’s something that I plan on doing. At this particular point, I’m working with my trainer, who I’ve worked with over the years, who I’ve had great seasons with, and just enjoying my time in this lockout of just trying to be better at what I do.”

If you’d like to read a few more answers like that, you can check ’em out here.

And here are a few other Redskins-related links that are worth checking out. Read more »
