Jim Haslett On Atogwe, Defensive Problems, And More

Posted by Matt Terl on March 11, 2011 – 12:16 pm

Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett sat down for an exclusive interview with Larry Michael this week. You can read some of the highlights in Larry Weisman’s summary piece, including this anecdote about Haslett’s early experience with newly-signed safety O.J. Atogwe from their days together in St. Louis:

“We’re playing San Diego, and LaDanian Tomlinson comes flying through the line and stiff-arms O.J and knocks his helmet off and he gets run over for like a 15-yard game,” Haslett recalled. “So I said to him, ‘O.J., don’t ever let anyone stiff-arm you. When it comes, the first thing you do is knock the arm down and reach for the ball because the ball is not secure enough when he stiff-arms.’ About 10 plays later, LT comes through the line, he goes to stiff-arm him, O.J. knocks the ball down, punches it out, and from that point on it’s kind of his M.O. He’ll rip balls out. He’s like DeAngelo (Hall) in that aspect. He has a great knack. And he’s a really great tackler in the open space.”

So if you want to read about the interview, Weisman’s your man. Or, if reading seems too taxing at this point in your day, you can just watch the whole interview directly below. Enjoy.

Hail! Examines A Redskins Generation Gap

Posted by Matt Terl on March 11, 2011 – 9:53 am

Here’s what you need to know for this week’s Hail! comic strip:

  • Phillip Daniels is on Twitter (here).
  • Anthony Armstrong is on Twitter (here).
  • Phillip Daniels is older than Anthony Armstrong, and has been in the NFL for much longer.
  • They discuss this. Frequently. Often in Twitter comments like this one.

With that out of the way, I’ll let writer/artist Ben Ceccarelli do his thing. As always, click on this first panel or the Read More link to see the rest of the strip.
