Images From Redskins Super Bowls Past

Posted by Matt Terl on February 4, 2011 – 5:22 pm

The Redskins aren’t in the Super Bowl this week, obviously. But Super Bowl weekend still seems like a good time to look back at some pictures from the times when they were — and I was fortunate enough to come across a few Redskins Super Bowl photos — mostly AP photos — that I don’t believe I’ve ever seen before. It’s not really any kind of salve for not having the actual team in the game, but … well, at least it’s Super Bowl-related.

Before Super Bowl XXVI, the Redskins goof around at practice while Charley Taylor looks on

Gary Clark conducts a Super Bowl XXVI media session while lying on his back, indoors, in sunglasses, with a zubaz-brimmed hat on his chest.

An interception in Super Bowl XXII.

Whatever Timmy Smith is being told before Super Bowl XXII, it worked.

Redskins helmet ice sculpture? Redskins helmet ice sculpture.

John Riggins running in Super Bowl XVII.

Mark Rypien stretching before Super Bowl XXVI, inexplicably wearing number 14.

And finally, a symbol of the ultimate goal of all of this:
the Super Bowl championship rings.

Is it worth the price of admission, or is it better to just go to a party?
