Help Redskins.com TV Pick The Top Ten Redskins Plays Of 2010

Posted by Matt Terl on January 10, 2011 – 3:07 pm

The fine folks at Redskins.com TV have done a lot for me over the course of the season. Whether I was looking for a specific highlight, for footage of Dexter Manley leading a pregame parade, or for full coverage of a women’s charity basketball game, they would turn up what I needed. So when they asked me to ask you, the readers, for help … well, I was happy to oblige.

Especially because it wasn’t actually my help they wanted, but yours: they need your input on the top ten plays from the 2010 Redskins season for a piece they’re doing for this Saturday evening’s Inside The Redskins show (at 7:00 p.m. on NBC-4). It sounds like an easy task, but it may be harder than you think.

The screen capture above comes from DeAngelo Hall‘s touchdown on a fumble recovery at the end of the first half in the opener against Dallas. That’s a logical nominee — the only Redskins touchdown in a game that was decided by 6 points. But it was also a game that was competitive straight down to the very final second … so does the holding call on Cowboys lineman Alex Barron that sealed it make your top 10 for the year?

Or consider the case of Brandon Banks. Banks only ran one kick back for a touchdown this year, in the Detroit game. That was an undeniably awesome play. But what about his other returns — say, the ones negated by penalty. (The video in that link, by the way, does one heck of a job conveying the electricity Banks generates at FedExField.) Do you count those?

Then there’s Ryan Torain trucking Quentin Mikell on his way into the endzone, LaRon Landry picking off Aaron Rodgers to put the Redskins in position for the game-winning kick against the Packers, any of Hall’s FOUR interceptions of Jay Cutler, Clinton Portis’s amazing block against the Texans … heck, Anthony Armstrong alone had three catches of 50+ yards. At least one of them has to qualify. Despite the disappointing final result, this was a team that made some big plays.

Fortunately for me, they weren’t asking ME to narrow the list down. They were asking you guys. So provide your top ten plays down in the comments — or tweet the directly to @RedskinsTV — and help the Redskins.com TV compile their list. Then watch on Saturday to see how well your choices match up with the final results. Seems like a reasonable payback for everything they did this year.

After the jump, the video of Hall’s scoop and score, which — if nothing else — seemed to me to be the most iconic play this year.
