Phillip Daniels Headed To Injured Reserve: A Twitter Saga

Posted by Matt Terl on December 20, 2010 – 3:56 pm

Much of Mike Shanahan’s Monday press conference was what you’d expect: Rex Grossman played well because he knows the offense. John Beck will indeed be the second-string QB for the next two weeks (although he won’t see the field as long as Grossman stays healthy). Kevin Barnes played well at safety in a time of need (“First of all, he was the only guy left,” Shanahan said, dryly.) No injury updates for Brian Orakpo, a concussion for Reed Doughty, and only a “tweaked hamstring” descriptor for Rocky McIntosh.

And Phillip Daniels is headed to injured reserve, which ends his 2010 season. Here’s that story developing via Daniels’ Twitter feed, starting from the plane last night, sitting on the tarmac in Dallas:

The other interesting bit of news from the presser, if only from a procedural standpoint, was that Donovan McNabb won’t be running the scout team unless he wants to. Shanahan explains: Read more »

Santana Moss Discusses The Drop

Posted by Matt Terl on December 20, 2010 – 12:46 pm

Santana Moss had a heck of a game yesterday — 8 catches for 72 yards with 2 touchdowns — but it was almost even better. On first down in the fourth quarter, with the game tied and 4:27 left, Rex Grossman hit Moss in the hands with a ball on a go route. The guy covering Moss had fallen down; had Moss caught the ball and fallen on the spot, it would’ve been a 26 yard gain, but it didn’t look like Moss would have any reason to fall on the spot. It looked, frankly, like it would’ve been a 75 yard go-ahead touchdown.

The wouldas off of this are ridiculous. It would’ve given the Redskins a likely shot at the win, completing a truly spectacular comeback. It would’ve given Moss 9 catches for 149 yards and 3 touchdowns. And it would’ve given Rex Grossman just under 400 yards passing with 5 touchdowns and only 1 interception.

So, yeah, costly drop. The Washington Post has it immortalized on the front page of their sports section, a phenomenal picture that makes me feel like I might throw up each time I see it. And to his credit, Moss adressed the drop directly today.

Redskins Discuss Rex Grossman And The Failed Comeback

Posted by Matt Terl on December 20, 2010 – 10:49 am

We’re moments away from hearing what the Redskins — or at least the ones who are willing to make an appearance in open locker room — feel like the next day. Their comments today will have the benefit of an evening’s reflection and a good night’s sleep. But yesterday in the locker room, fresh out off what was in some ways a devastating loss and in other ways the first sign of hope in weeks, the comments on Rex Grossman‘s first start as a Redskins QB were almost uniformly positive.

Here’s a quick sampling, courtesy of transcriptions provided by the Cowboys PR staff: Read more »
