The Fit For You 5K in D.C. is still a couple of weeks away, and you should sign up now. But the 5K walk/run, which supports the NFL Play 60 Challenge, is also part of the NFL’s new women’s initiative. And since Tanya Snyder and Christy Cooley are two of the official spokepeople for that initiative, they found themselves on an early morning flight to Indianapolis today to take part in the first such event.
I’ll have much more on the event on Monday, but wanted to at least share some pictures today. The day wound up gorgeous, and the walk was well-attended by women, men, kids, dogs, and even mascots — both official:
— and unofficial (think Chief Zee, only Coltsier):
Then there was an appearance by Lazytown‘s Sportacus, which was … surreal.
There were even a few Redskins fans in attendance.
That’s Mike Cole, who grew up in North Carolina and is an old-school pre-Panthers Carolina Redskins fan, and Alex Till, whom Cole has brought into Redskins fandom. Today marked a somewhat unique first for Cole, who said that he’d never run into the wife of someone portrayed on a shirt he was wearing. The two were slightly disappointed by the lack of burgundy and gold merchandise for sale, but I suspect that won’t be a problem at the D.C. event.
And you can really see why this sort of thing wouldn’t work for Redskins fans, no matter how well-designed it is.
Despite that, it was a good day for a great cause.
And the D.C. event on November 13 at National Harbor should be even better, so sign up now.
