This was a good weekend for all the Redskins, obviously. A big win in a hotly-contested game — if “hotly-contested” is an accurate descriptor for what London Fletcher called “one of the sloppiest football games I’ve ever seen” — that put them back up above .500 for the season … yeah, I’ll call that a good weekend.
But it seems safe to say that none of the Redskins had quite as good a weekend as Phillip Daniels. First of all, this win made Daniels 4-0 against his former team, which is a gratifying stat for a guy (no matter how much they try to deny it). But more importantly: Daniels, you’ll remember, was allowed to come up to Chicago a day early to watch his son DaVaris play high school football on Senior Night.
Well, it turns out that wasn’t the only game Daniels was able to attend. “I’m 4-0 with my family this weekend,” Daniels said in the locker room after today’s game, exulting as only a proud father can.
Here’s how the Daniels family success breaks down:“My son DaVaris played a football game Friday night,” Daniels said “and they won 55-6. DaVaris had a touchdown and another called back, had some great catches.
“My daughter DaMara, she had a basketball game on Saturday morning at 9:00. They won — I don’t remember the score, but they won and she played well.
“And my six year-old son Kenny had a football game at 1:00 on Saturday, and they won 26-0. He had a touchdown — a 60-something yard touchdown run. Check it out, both my sons had 60-something yard touchdowns this weekend.”
Which means that every member of the Daniels family outscored their proud pop. “I’m the only one who didn’t score,” he said, beaming, “but I’ll take the win.”
