A Redskins Presence In New NFLShop Ads [Updated]

Posted by Matt Terl on September 23, 2010 – 3:53 pm

So there’s this ad campaign running in support of the NFL’s clothing line for women, Touch. The theme of the TV spots and magazine ads is that women no longer need to wear oversized men’s jerseys, because — according to an August 26 article in the New York Times — “When a woman wears a traditional man’s jersey, ‘you just look like you’re wearing a big tent,’ said Alice Ericsson, executive vice president and group creative director for Grey New York, which is working with the N.F.L. on the campaign.”

Well, the spots have begun making their way to the public, and there’s a strong Redskins presence to them.

That’s Redskins owner Daniel Snyder having a men’s jersey returned to him by his wife Tanya at about 0:09 there. And last week’s People Magazine carried this ad, featuring Chris Cooley‘s wife Christy: Read more »

Kareem Moore's Alter Ego

Posted by Matt Terl on September 23, 2010 – 1:43 pm

Safety Kareem Moore says that he feels “a hundred percent” and that he expects to be back on the field in some role against the Rams this weekend. He couldn’t say how much playing time he’d get, or if he’d be starting, or if he’d be carrying a full special teams load, referring all those questions to head coach Mike Shanahan. But one way or another, Moore will likely be seeing his first onfield action since his impressive training camp and preseason work.

Which seemed like an appropriate time to dredge up a whole bunch of old quotes that were rendered slightly useless by Moore’s preseason knee injury. So here, then, is the training camp story of Kareem Moore’s alter ego, KMo.

When Moore started referring to himself as “KMo” on Twitter, it didn’t seem like that big a deal — Kareem Moore to KMo isn’t the most shocking nicknaming of all time.

But it quickly became clear that KMo is less a nickname and more a state of mind.

“It’s an alter-ego,” Moore explained to me during training camp. “You know, Kareem is the nice guy. Laid-back. Cool. KMo’s the guy who goes out there and makes stuff happen.”

“Kareem’s more laidback, joking and that,” Rocky McIntosh explained. “KMo’s just wild. He’s all over the place, making plays that he shouldn’t even be making.” Read more »

Chad Simpson Would Like To Be Olandis Gary

Posted by Matt Terl on September 23, 2010 – 10:18 am

If you look at the top performers from the Redskins’ dominating preseason Week 1 win over the Buffalo Bills this year, you’ll see Redskins backup quarterback Rex Grossman as the passing leader and Redskins backup wide receiver Devin Thomas as the receiving leader. But even though the Redskins controlled that entire game and put up 42 points, the rushing leader is “BUF: Chad Simpson 67 yards”.

And that’s part of the reason that Chad Simpson wound up in the Redskins locker room yesterday, wearing a burgundy and gold #29 jersey that looked very similar to the one that he’s being tackled by in that picture above. Read more »
