Larry Johnson Released

Posted by Matt Terl on September 21, 2010 – 5:49 pm

The Redskins today announced the release of veteran running back Larry Johnson. “We appreciate Larry’s attitude and contributions to the Redskins,” General Manager Bruce Allen said in a release. “However, we needed to make a roster move in preparation for this week’s game against the Rams.”

From a blogging standpoint, this is a big loss; Johnson was a smart guy, an interesting guy, a guy with local ties, and a consistently good quote who was always willing to talk.

But from a football standpoint, it makes more sense. Johnson hadn’t seemed able to replicate his early training camp success since the actual games started up, and his run for a loss of ten on Sunday was one of the major turning points as that game turned nasty for the Redskins. And I think we can all agree that the football standpoint trumps the blogging standpoint every time.

This also means that undrafted rookie Keiland Williams is currently the number 2 running back on the depth chart. Williams impressed throughout offseason work, and has performed solidly in limited action so far. I’m curious to see what he can bring in an increased role.

That was a wide spectrum affair using multiple cameras in multiple locations, and it was very cool. What I didn’t know was that there was another time lapse project going on, this one just covering the entirety of gameday from a single angle high above the field. It is also completely awesome, and I’m glad to be able to show it here courtesy of the Redskins Broadcast Network. (And it’s made all the more awesome by the Explosions In The Sky they’re using as a soundtrack.)

A few things that I particularly love: Read more »

Two More Angles On That Clinton Portis Block

Posted by Matt Terl on September 21, 2010 – 9:15 am

Thanks to the kind folks over at the Redskins Broadcast Network, here are two more angles on that nifty downfield block by Clinton Portis from the Texans game. There aren’t all that many players where I’d eagerly seek out other angles on their blocking, but Portis is most definitely one. This is video is pretty much all the reason why.
