With the Redskins Rides Car Show coming up this Sunday, it seemed like a good time to take a look at some of the players’ cars that might turn up at the show. And the bright purple Dodge Challenger in the parking really stood out. I assumed it belonged to LaRon Landry — a fan of both the color purple and interesting cars — but was quickly pointed to the correct owner, tight end Fred Davis.
“I got the purple ’cause it’s different,” Davis says. “Y’know, a lot of people don’t have that — they only made, like, 200 of ’em. So I had to get the purple Hemi, something with some speed on it ‘stead of driving the Benz all the time.”
“The Benz” is Davis’s S550, the car he bought after receiving his first pro paycheck. The 2010 Challenger SRT8 Hemi is the most recent acquisition. ““I just like the old school cars,” Davis explains. “I like the old school Challengers, but they’re hard to find, and I hate doin’ all the repairing on the old school cars, and it costs a lot. So I figured, you know, they remodeled it, get a new version — 2010 — so I just got that instead.”
Far be it from me to argue.
Redskins Rides takes place at Redskins Park on Sunday from 12pm-7pm. Admission is $15 for Adults, $10 for kids, 3 and under are free. More information at the website.
