Watch 'Brothers Of The Legacy' Saturday Night At 7:00

The new documentary Brothers Of The Legacy airs at 7:00 this Saturday night on NBC-4. It’s the story of Sam Huff and Sonny Jurgensen, from their time as players up to today, and it is absolutely terrific. Sometimes things like this only appeal to people of a certain age — people who remember the events from the first time around, usually — but Sonny and Sam have been there for Redskins fans in one role or another pretty much forever, and this documentary has a correspondingly broad appeal.

It’s a chance to hear Sonny and Sam’s story from the guys themselves, as well as from the people who know them best, including Billy Kilmer, Frank Herzog, Larry Michael, and Daniel Snyder, along with many others. And if you’re a Redskins fan, it’s really worth watching. Read more »

The Equipment Room Gets Ready For Training Camp

Posted by Matt Terl on July 23, 2010 – 12:08 pm

It is the quietest of quiet times at Redskins Park, as the players and coaches (mostly) squeeze in one last bit of rest before everything goes completely insane next Thursday. (It really is that sudden, too — like one of those hydraulic-launched roller coasters that hits 80 mph before you’ve pulled away from the turnstiles.) Even the weight room is mostly quiet for these very few days.

But there are a couple of rooms in the building that are already cranking at full go, and one of those is the equipment room. Which makes sense, if you stop to think about it: the start of training camp would be a difficult affair if all of the gear hadn’t been sorted out in advance. So I went down there with a camera crew from Redskins Broadcast Network to see what-all they had going on. This was the result:

Mike Shanahan Doesn't Want You Tempering Your Expectations

Posted by Matt Terl on July 23, 2010 – 10:11 am

Writing over at the Redskins.com mothership, Larry Weisman has a wide-ranging interview with new head coach Mike Shanahan to get you ready for next week’s launch of training camp. There are a lot of topics covered — what the coach did with his year off, what it’s like working with his son Kyle, the importance of wives to coaching — but I think this is the money quote: Read more »

Hail! Finds The Greatest Sound Effect Ever

Posted by Matt Terl on July 23, 2010 – 9:08 am

There’s a lot to like about this week’s installment of Hail!. Writer/artist Ben Ceccarelli continues his ongoing saga of Gucci, LaRon Landry’s white-faced capuchin monkey, while also poking fun at a fan-favorite source of fun-poking. But what made me smile was the sound effect in this first panel. I can think of no better description of the sound of a football being caught. Excellent work.

As ever, click this first panel or the Read More link below to see the rest of the strip.
