Fresh off a ringing endorsement from basketball great Charles Barkley, here’s some more basketball with Redskins QB Donovan McNabb. Specifically, McNabb’s appearance on the episode of Spike TV’s Pros Vs. Joes that premieres Wednesday night.
(To alleviate any confusion, McNabb — with teammates and fellow NFL-ers Terrell Owens and Antonio Gates — are PRO football players, but JOE basketball players. Their opponents, meanwhile, are former PRO basketball players who are now average JOEs. Okay, that didn’t really alleviate any confusion.)
Anyhow, the whole McNabb basketball thing has become something of a trend almost since the day the QB arrived in DC. I first became aware of it from the intrepid Washington Wizards bloggers over at Truth About It.net, who — in a post focused on former Wizard Jahidi White — almost casually tossed out there that McNabb had been a walk-on to the Syracuse basketball team during his freshman and sophomore years at the school. And they ALSO, oh-by-the-way, included this video.
When the guys over at Mister Irrelevant picked this up, one of their commenters noted that you can also see Basketball McNabb pulling faces in the background of this video, too.
So between being goofy and playing basketball, McNabb’s pretty much been training for this Pros Vs. Joes thing all his life. Still, I was pretty impressed that he still has that explosiveness to the hoop. I guess we’ll have to watch the episode to see if his facemaking skills have remained intact as well.
