Lorenzo Alexander And Friends Help Kids Get Ready For School

Posted by Matt Terl on July 20, 2010 – 3:52 pm

With just over a week until training camp starts up, Redskins linebacker Lorenzo Alexander spent the day pretty much exactly as you’d expect: hanging out in Target, buying school supplies with a few of his teammates

The reason for the outing was the second annual Big Play Back-To-School Giveaway, hosted by Alexander’s ACES Foundation with support from the Redskins Charitable Foundation and Target. Roughly sixty kids from local non-profit organizations were brought to Target, where they were able to shop with a Redskins player for their school supplies.

“I’m a big education guy,” Alexander explained, “and like [in] football you need your shoulder pads and helmet, you definitely need pencils and papers and notebooks to be successful in school. Growing up I saw a lot of kids come to school without that, and it probably hurt them in the long run as far as getting good grades. So I just wanna provide kids with the necessary equipment so they can be good in school.” Read more »

Play The Virginia Lottery's Redskins Legacy Scratcher

Posted by Matt Terl on July 20, 2010 – 1:33 pm

Last year’s Redskins Mania ticket was a big hit — money was won, exciting second-chance prizes were awarded, victory dances were danced.

This year, the Virginia Lottery replaces Redskins Mania with Redskins Legacy. And, from the perspective of very simple mathematics, Redskins Legacy is at least twice as good as Redskins Mania. The equation is simple: at ten dollars a ticket, Redskins Legacy is half the price of its predecessor — but the prize list remains impressive. It is, therefore, twice as good. QED.

For more information on Redskins Legacy scratchers, and a complete list of prizes, head over to www.valottery.com.

Each ticket features one of seven different historic Redskins helmet or anniversary logos, which means that one in every seven features the yellow helmets that I love so much, and that’s pretty cool. But mainly I like the lower cost. Read more »

More Basketball With Donovan McNabb

Posted by Matt Terl on July 20, 2010 – 9:34 am

Fresh off a ringing endorsement from basketball great Charles Barkley, here’s some more basketball with Redskins QB Donovan McNabb. Specifically, McNabb’s appearance on the episode of Spike TV’s Pros Vs. Joes that premieres Wednesday night.

(To alleviate any confusion, McNabb — with teammates and fellow NFL-ers Terrell Owens and Antonio Gates — are PRO football players, but JOE basketball players. Their opponents, meanwhile, are former PRO basketball players who are now average JOEs. Okay, that didn’t really alleviate any confusion.)

Anyhow, the whole McNabb basketball thing has become something of a trend almost since the day the QB arrived in DC. I first became aware of it from the intrepid Washington Wizards bloggers over at Truth About It.net, who — in a post focused on former Wizard Jahidi White — almost casually tossed out there that McNabb had been a walk-on to the Syracuse basketball team during his freshman and sophomore years at the school. And they ALSO, oh-by-the-way, included this video. Read more »
