Dan Hellie of NBC-4 talked to Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, and Shanahan described how his father, head coach Mike Shanahan, had guaranteed a Super Bowl win. Seriously. It’s at about the 1:34 mark in the video below, and the transcription is after the jump for those who can’t see video.
Okay, so it’s not guaranteeing a REDSKINS Super Bowl win. I can see where my phrasing might have been misleading. Sorry about that. But Kyle Shanahan does describe how his father was absolutely certain that the Denver Broncos would break the AFC’s 13 year Super Bowl drought, and he gives some insight into the coach’s taste in movies in the process.
“I remember my dad basically guaranteeing victory to my friend and I the morning of,” Kyle Shanahan tells Hellie. “We were sitting in his hotel room — we were actually watching White Man Can’t Jump — just laughing, and he was as calm as can be hanging out with us. And my friend and I thought it was weird that he wasn’t doing other stuff, and he goes, ‘No, we’re gonna win today, there’s no doubt.’ And then to actually see it happen, to see the way they did it, it was special.”
I know what movie I’m going to watch the night before big games now.
