Fred Davis and Donovan McNabb Welcome John Wall

Posted by Matt Terl on June 25, 2010 – 5:47 pm

That, my friends, is a screencapture of Redskins tight end Fred Davis performing the John Wall dance to welcome the Wizards first-round draft choice to town, alongside quarterback Donovan McNabb and host of other Washingtonians, famous and un-, in a video the Wizards put together.

It’s a little strange to think of the third year Davis and newly-acquired McNabb as the sorts of elder statesmen who should be welcoming the 19-year-old to town, but things move pretty fast in D.C. Heck, when Donovan McNabb was acquired on April 4, here’s where a few of his fellow dancers were:

  • Alex Ovechkin hadn’t even started the NHL playoffs yet
  • Stephen Strasburg was still a week away from his minor-league debut, let alone the first official Strasmas
  • Ryan Zimmerman’s inescapable Geico commercials hadn’t started airing
  • The DC version of Wax Michelle Obama hadn’t yet been unveiled

So, yeah, things just zip along in this town. By those standards, Fred Davis might as well be a proud Redskins alum from the 1970s.

And anyway, strange or not, this all actually happened. Check out the full video after the McNabb screencapture and the jump.

Colt Brennan Reaches Out To A Fan In Need

Posted by Matt Terl on June 25, 2010 – 2:30 pm

If you look carefully at Colt Brennan in the picture above, you’ll notice that he’s wearing a purple bracelet on his right wrist. It’s not just a fashion statement. The bracelet reads ‘Keep Fighting’ along with the letters SRB. Those are the initials of Sean Barnum, a 19 year old in Texas who was stabbed in the heart with a screwdriver last April.

“He was a high school quarterback,” Brennan told me, “looking to eventually go and work himself into a program somewhere. And I guess he was just a big fan of me when I was in college and — I guess he wore my number, too — and his brother-in-law [Justin Jemela] reached out to see if there’s anything I could do.”

Jammal Brown: 'I've Always Been A Hog'

Posted by Matt Terl on June 25, 2010 – 11:37 am

Newly-acquired Redskins offensive lineman Jammal Brown has been saying all the right things since he arrived in town, but perhaps never quite so many of them at one time as he did while on The LaVar Arrington Show With Chad Dukes yesterday. It’s a long, terrific interview, and you can listen to it here, but I’ve gone ahead and transcribed a few excerpts as well. Because if you’re a Redskins fan, this will get you pretty fired up — Dukes and Arrington are both pretty excitable guys by nature, but over the course of this interview, they both sounded ready to run through a brick wall.

DeAngelo Hall Comes To Hail!

Posted by Matt Terl on June 25, 2010 – 9:02 am

Fresh off his trip to Sea World yesterday, cornerback DeAngelo Hall drops in on Hail!, the official comic strip of this here blog. Every time an installment of this shows up, I’m hoenstly amazed by how well writer/artist Ben Ceccarelli captures the physical likenesses of the players. This week is no different — the facial expression in panel 2 is EXACT — but I’m a little sad that the pressure of deadlines and a quirk of timing prevented Ben from including Clyde the sea lion as well. I bet he could’ve really worked wonders with that handsome marine mammal.

As always, click on this first panel or the Read More link to see the rest of the strip.
