Two More Redskins Discuss Stephen Strasburg, After The Fact

Posted by Matt Terl on June 8, 2010 – 11:59 pm

So it turns out that when DeAngelo Hall, official Nationals correspondent for this blog, projected how Stephen Strasburg’s debut for the Nationals last night might go, he underestimated on just about every front besides one — and that one was when he said “I mean, the kid is one of those guys who can change a franchise.”

Strasburg lived up to or exceeded every expectation last night, finishing with 7 innings pitched, 4 hits given up, 2 earned runs, and a frankly insane fourteen strike-outs. I caught the game at the ESPNZone in D.C., where I was attending a Redskins charitable event (on which much more later) that was taking up the biggest screens. The event shut down around the sixth inning, which brought the game back to the enormous screen.

DeAngelo Hall Discusses Stephen Strasburg

So I went to Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall — a baseball enthusiast, genuine Nats fan, and aspiring racing president — and dubbed him the official Nationals correspondent of this blog.

Then I asked him to predict how Strasburg’s debut would go.

“I think Strasburg’ll go in, pitch probably about six innings, give up — I don’t want him to give up anything — but probably give up one earned run. Couple hits. But I think his debut’ll be pretty successful. He’ll have the crowd behind him, big primetime game, Baseball Tonight’s gonna be there….”

He trailed off and shook his head. “I mean, the kid is one of those guys who can change a franchise.”
