Anthony Armstrong Has His Second Impressive Mini-Camp

Posted by Matt Terl on May 13, 2010 – 2:44 pm

Every year, there are those players who stand out at mini-camps, training camps, and pre-season games and become fan favorites. The Redskins had one of those at the wide receiver position in Marko Mitchell. Mitchell, a seventh-round draft choice last year, impressed the fans with his athleticism during training camp and his three touchdowns in the preseason. He made the roster for the 2009 season, and those same fans awaited his inevitable breakout game.

Anthony Armstrong, meanwhile, was signed as a street free agent in October of that same season. He’s come up just about the hardest way possible, from West Texas A&M through the Arena League and something called the Intense Football League (which he discussed with me shortly after being signed; apparently, it’s intense). For the most part, no one took any notice of his arrival.

Today marks the tenth birthday of ExtremeSkins, the Official Message Board of the Washington Redskins. It’s not the tenth birthday of their Officialness, which came a few years later; instead it’s the tenth anniversary of when the domain name was first registered. The folks at ExtremeSkins have already written an exceedingly comprehensive history of their board, but I thought for the tenth anniversary it might be fun to dig up one of the first threads on the board, get a sense of what the discussion was ten years ago.

It didn’t quite work out, because Archive.org doesn’t have anything saved for http://www.extremeskins.com as far back as 2000. But they do have stuff from 2001, so I semi-arbitrarily selected the thread “What Players Do You Least Want?” to pull from. I figure that as a pre-draft thread, it was still taking place during the site’s first NFL year of existence, and it seemed the likeliest to yield some ironic-in-retrospect posts.

And it didn’t disappoint. Read more »

A Slew Of Morning Links

Posted by Matt Terl on May 13, 2010 – 9:54 am

Not exactly Redskins-related, although it’s potentially FedExField-related: tomorrow, the United States officially submits their bid book to host the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup. The USA Bid Committee is encouraging people to sign a petition and participate in a mass tweeting tomorrow. Hey, why not.

More links, most of which actually have something to with the Redskins: Read more »
