Baseball Is DeAngelo Hall's Backup Plan
Posted by on May 10, 2010 – 4:00 pmYou’re probably aware that DeAngelo Hall threw out the first pitch at Thursday night’s Nats game. Perhaps you saw it, or saw it mentioned on Twitter, or read about it when I wrote about it on Friday, or when Dan Steinberg covered it from another angle this morning.
And I bet through all of that coverage, two thoughts were just pounding in your head: 1) Does Hall have a lot of baseball experience? And 2) What does Carlos Rogers think of all this?

You hear the term “graybeard” a lot to refer to older players, but it’s very rarely actually true. Aside from Kurt Warner and the inescapable Brett Favre, I can’t think of a whole lot of players who actually continued to play while sporting silver facial hair.
Well, you can add Joey Galloway to the list. I mentioned Galloway’s distinctive on-field appearance, the strips of his headwear fluttering behind his helmet, but the most distinctive part of his off-field appearance was his white stubble. But that wasn’t the only thing that alluded to Galloway’s age; so did half the questions he was asked.
It’s funny: when Galloway signed, I thought of him as a veteran receiver. I observed that he had been teammates of a sort with Keenan McCardell, who is now his position coach. But I didn’t fully put together just HOW veteran he was until a throwaway comment in the interview above. Read more »
