More Uniform Talk. Hooray.

So while I was watching first-round pick Trent Williams take his headshot, general manager Bruce Allen took to the airwaves on ESPN980 and talked to Kevin Sheehan. Fortunately, Gary Fitzgerald of Redskins.com was listening, and he’s posted a look at the meat of what Allen discussed:

On a contract extension for Donovan McNabb: “We know there will be a time and place to address that. Right now we’re focused on trying to have a good mini-camp, a healthy mini-camp and seeing what we can accomplish this weekend. There will be plenty of time to have those discussions.”

On restricted free agent Rocky McIntosh: “I’m sure he will sign his tender in a very short time.”

On Albert Haynesworth: “”He wanted to work out with his personal trainer and he says that has worked for him in the past. He did that when he was with the Tennessee [Titans] franchise. He went back to that routine and hopefully it works out for him.”

Allen is a master at playing his cards close to the vest, so, honestly, there’s not a lot of news there. But perhaps the most interesting bit of non-news had nothing to do with playing the game of football at all.

Dan Steinberg was all over this part: the possible return of gold pants. Some of the important quotes, via Steinberg’s transcript at the DC Sports Bog:

Sheehan: I don’t think this would be any kind of state secret, but have you decided or has Mike Shanahan decided what you’re gonna wear at home this year, uniform-wise?

Allen: Yes, we have discussed that. And are you asking about the gold pants?

Sheehan: Well, I want to hear what you say, and then I’ll follow up.

Allen (laughing): I’m looking at a beautiful pair of gold pants right here in my office right now, in that new office.

Sheehan: Are you gonna wear burgundy and gold at home like your father’s teams?

Allen: I’m very proud of our team colors, and you will see our team colors on display.

I would really, really love to see the team come out in gold pants; there’s a bit more of this discussion (but nothing absolutely definitive) over at the Bog. But I have to be completely honest: there was a part of me that was happy when we left the conversation about new uniforms behind in January. Sad but true.

Still: possible gold pants?!? AND the possible return of Rocky McIntosh? Truly a great day for Redskins blogging.
