Offensive Line Coach Chris Foerster Is Excited About Trent Williams

Posted by Matt Terl on April 23, 2010 – 5:22 pm

The headline here might seem obvious. “Of course he’s excited,” you might say (if you were the sort of person given to talking back to your computer), “he’s getting a cornerstone of an offensive tackle to build his offensive line on.” But there tends to be a line of thinking around football that nothing is so nerve-wracking to a position coach as being given a high-first-round draft choice.

Your best-case scenario, the pessimistic view suggests, is that the player lives up to his potential and does exactly what he’s expected to. The worst-case scenario is that you are held responsible for failing to develop the talent that the team saw in the player, and you lose your job.

This one speaks to a long-standing favorite topic of the blog. And I have to say, Cartoon Me is certainly in much better shape than Actual Me.

As always, click on the first panel (or on the Read More link) to see the rest of the strip.

A Little More On Trent "Silverback" Williams

Posted by Matt Terl on April 23, 2010 – 9:39 am

Last night on a conference call with local media, newly drafted offensive tackle Trent Williams gave a quick overview of how he got the nickname Silverback:

“It’s just a little thing me and my teammates kind of went with on the field,” he said. “Just a beast, like, Silverback is one of the strongest beasts so we kind of called ourselves that.” But that didn’t actually explain how Roger Goodell came to announce that the Redskins had selected “Trent ‘Silverback’ Williams” with their pick.

Rick Maese of the Washington Post was at the NFL Draft last night, so he heard Williams’ press conference at Radio City Music Hall and reports this explanation from Williams: Read more »
