Minicamp Day 2 In Photo Form

Posted by Matt Terl on April 17, 2010 – 1:49 pm

Because it wasn’t all coaches and concussions today. There was some minicamping as well; here are some images of that. It seems to me — albeit after only having seen a bit of two practices — that there’s more running under new coach Mike Shanahan than there was under the old regime. See?

On High School Coaches And Concussions

Posted by Matt Terl on April 17, 2010 – 1:05 pm

There’s an obvious question to ask about the 170+ high school coaches that attended Redskins minicamp today: if they’re here for a “Concussion Awareness and Education forum,” what, exactly did they learn? And why learn it from the Redskins?

This initiative is an important one to head coach Bruce Allen — he’s previously participated in a Congressional forum on the subject — and it makes sense that Allen would start his outreach with high school coaches. Allen’s father, of course, was Hall of Fame NFL head coach George Allen, so it’s probably safe to call him a guy who knows the impact a coach can have on a life. And, in case it wasn’t clear, Allen lays it out in his welcome to the coaches. The video is at the end of this post, but here’s the crucial part, and the impetus behind today’s entire event:
