FedExField Goes HD, Part 6: An Update (With Steelwork)

Posted by Matt Terl on April 14, 2010 – 11:57 am

An update on the ongoing work at FedExField. Looking at previous entries in this series will help to provide some context and comparison for these shots. The main change of note is that demolition seems to have largely halted, and construction is underway.

The welders you see in these shots — shots, I might add, which abjectly fail to capture the fiery awesomeness of the actual welding process — are doing steelwork, installing vertical and horizontal struts to support the new videoboards and the roof behind them.

Meanwhile, the gutted control room is … well, it’s still gutted, but a new divider wall has clearly been drywalled out, and the floor panels have been yanked up to allow access to the cabling space beneath.

The modules from the old JumboTron have been taken off their pallets and are being broken down into component cells appropriately-sized for raising money for charity.

And, in case you’re curious, here’s what the videoboard space will look like from the middle of the field at the 50-yard line:

And from the 10-yard line, halfway into the red zone:

Hopefully Donovan McNabb and whoever else winds up playing on offense for the Redskins this year will see a lot more of the latter view than the former.
