Redskins Sign NT Ma'ake Kemoeatu

That’s not an official Madden 10 cover, in case there was any confusion — it’s one of many custom covers designed by someone by the name of Dorado45. But it might as well be authentic, because being on a Madden cover all but guarantees one thing: the season in question is doomed for you.
And last season was doomed for nose tackle Ma’ake Kemoeatu, who was signed by the Redskins today.
He collapsed while running during a practice with the Carolina Panthers, and what looked like a minor injury turned out to be a torn achilles tendon. Reports are that the injury hasn’t fully healed, but Kemoeatu is expected to be healthy by the start of training camp at which point he’s expected to compete for the nose tackle position. (Which would by definition imply the transition to some version of the 3-4 defense.)
Kemoeatu certainly looks the part. In a building that contains a lot of very big men, he looks notably bigger. He lists at 345 but looks to be at least fifteen pounds heavier than that (not that I’m much of a weight guesser), and would certainly appear to be the kind of massive space-eater you want at nose tackle.
He also gives the Redskins another Hawai’i tie in addition to the now-familliar Colt Brennan. Kemoeatu was born in Pule’anga Fakatu’i'o, Tonga, but attended high school in Kahuku, Hawai’i. Now he (and his brother Chris, who starts for the Pittsburgh Steelers) return to Kahuku High School to run football clinics.
I look forward to double the quantity of pineapples arriving at Redskins Park this offseason. Also, to a space-eating nose tackle who will help the rest of the defense swarm and attack, but mainly to the pineapple.
