DeAngelo Hall Takes Over ESPN, Enjoys Tattoos, Bowling, Madden

Posted by Matt Terl on March 8, 2010 – 1:44 pm

Well, DeAngelo Hall is on every ESPN outlet known to man today. I caught him on ESPN First Take and read his ESPN Chat; I deliberately skipped The Herd with Colin Cowherd (because it would take a lot more than a random offseason DHall appearance to get me to sit through that show); I’ll catch his Scott Van Pelt Show appearance on podcast; and I’m sure I’ll see at least one airing of his NFL Live interview.

So far, despite getting full car wash treatment from ESPN — because they put you on a conveyor and drag you through all their shows, see? — the always-frank Hall has managed to avoid saying anything too inflammatory while still agreeably carrying the discussion.

From First Take (which is a really weird show, by the way):

On the offseason workout program under new head coach Mike Shanahan:
“Guys are gonna be accountable. He’s gonna want guys there, working out. It’s going to be build some kind of camaraderie, and we’re gonna be ready to play football, that’s for sure.”

On what he would do with the Redskins’ draft if he were the GM:“You know what, we’ve been kinda banged up on the offensive line. You know, whenever I’m playing Madden or anything like that, the first thing I do when we got a fantasy draft is I go get an offensive lineman…. Whenever we start a league up, that’s the first thing I’m doing is getting’ an offensive tackle, so that wouldn’t be a bad pick for us.”

On what his workout with Darrell Green will involve:
“Just a little bit of everything. At one point I was regarded as one of the best young corners in this league. I’m still feel like I’m pretty young, you know? I’m 26, going into my seventh season, [and] I’m trying to retake my title, retake my crown. So, yeah, I’ll be doing work with him, Deion Sanders, just trying to get back to what got me here in the first place.”

And from his SportsNation chat:

On the switch to a 3-4 defense:
“I think it will be a good thing. In the past we’ve ran a 4-3 and it’s been stagnant, kind of just line up and play. I think the 3-4 is going to give us a chance to disguise it a little more. Cause some chaos and much needed confusion. On the back end, it will be much the same.”

On Jason Campbell:
“I think we all think that Jason can take us to the playoffs. Do we need to get him a little bit of help? Yeah. Defensively we haven’t gotten him turnovers. We were one of the worst teams in the league getting him the ball. I think I had 4 picks last year and as a team we had 6. That’s the way you’re successful on defense, getting the ball back.”

On the most annoying wide receiver in the league:
“To guard, I think the more annoying ones in the league are the smaller ones. THe ones that will dance a lot at the line of scrimmage out of their break versus the bigger guys. You can beat those guys out of their break. I can beat Brandon Marshall out of his break more so than DJack, Steve Smith those kinds of receivers.”

On what he does during the offseason for fun:
“Get tattoos and Madden. Bowling when I don’t feel like getting a tattoo.”
